A single column tie is a way of creating a safe and stable loop consisting of multiple windings around a single column (such as a wrist). The most simple of those single column ties is the Single Column Tie on a Bight.
The main advantages of this single column tie are its simplicity and that it does not require a lot of rope to tie it. The main disadvantages are that it can only be tied on the bight end of a doubled rope, and that it can not be untied without untying the remainder of the rope first.
A double column tie is similar to a single column tie, but binds two parallel columns, such as two parallel wrists.
The Double Column Tie on a Bight is the most simple double column tie in this tutorial. It is tied similarly to the Single Column Tie on a Bight, and has the same advantages and disadvantages. The main difference is that for the double Column Tie on a Bight, the final second loop around the bundle is not optional and must always be tied in order to end up with a safe and secure knot.
